The administration of Jahangirnagar University’s (JU) Jahanara Imam Hall has backtracked on its decision to lock the main gate at 11pm amid strong protests and anger among students.
The decision was unanimously withdrawn at an emergency meeting of the Jahanara Imam Hall Parliament on Friday.
Earlier, in a notice signed by Hall Provost Prof M Mahbubur Rahman on 19 August, the administration announced that the main gate would be locked at 11pm and that female students would not be allowed to leave the hall except in emergencies.
The notice, however, sparked widespread discussion and criticism among students.
