Alhaj Jasim Uddin Foundation will donate six new buses to Chittagong University to help ease the transport crisis faced by its teachers and students.
The announcement was made at a meeting between the university's Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Al-Forkan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mohammad Al-Amin and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Md Shafiqul Islam, and Alhaj Mohammad Jasim Uddin, chairman of the foundation and chairman of JR Yunuch Group, at the foundation's office in Panchlaish on Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, the university's transport crisis was discussed in detail. Jasim Uddin Foundation pledged to support efforts to improve the university's transport services and announced the donation of six new buses.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan thanked the foundation for the initiative, saying it was difficult for the university administration alone to rapidly expand all facilities. He said support from social organisations such as the foundation was highly commendable and expressed hope that the six buses would significantly ease the university's transport crisis.
Alhaj Mohammad Mokhtar Ahmad, director of the foundation and a businessman, said the organisation had long been supporting education and various social initiatives. The decision to donate the buses was part of its social responsibility, he said.
Foundation chairman Jasim Uddin said he was proud to contribute to the welfare of Chittagong University and pledged continued support for constructive initiatives at the university.
University Registrar (Acting) Md Hasan Mia, journalist SM Yusuf Uddin and Meghna Bank branch manager Mohammad Belal, among others, were present at the meeting.
