A tragic twist has left the family of Shihab devastated after the SSC results released two days after his death showed that he had achieved GPA 5.
Shihab, a talented student from Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla, was electrocuted to death on 8 August, just two days before the publication of the 2026 SSC results.
He was the eldest son of Toffazzal Hossain of Gazi Bari in Manra village under the Shashidal union of Brahmanpara.
Shihab lived with his family in Gazipur and appeared for the SSC examination under the Dhaka Education Board from Dhaka Airport Government High School.
His family members said they had expected him to achieve an excellent result and were confident that he would secure a GPA 5.
“He was a very meritorious student. If Shihab were alive, he would have been extremely happy with his result,” his relatives said.
His uncle Ziaul Haque broke down in tears while speaking about the result.
“We all expected Shihab to get a GPA 5 in the SSC examination. If he were alive, our home would have been filled with happiness today. Everyone would have celebrated with him and shared sweets,” he said.
“But the news of his result has only deepened our grief. This emptiness can never be filled.”
Shihab had travelled from Dhaka to his ancestral village with his family to attend his uncle’s wedding. The wedding reception was scheduled for August 8.
After taking a shower that afternoon, Shihab went to the roof of the house to hang wet clothes to dry. While moving the clothes near the roof parapet, he came into contact with a damaged decorative light wire and was electrocuted.
He subsequently fell from the roof.
Family members and others rushed him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Brahmanpara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Munni Islam expressed sympathy for the bereaved family.
“The incident is extremely heartbreaking. We have contacted the family to inquire about their situation. We have also asked the local union parishad chairman to stand beside the family and offer them support,” she said.
For Shihab’s family, the achievement he had worked so hard for has arrived with an unbearable sense of loss. His GPA 5 is now a reminder of the future he could have had.
