The Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU)
has launched a live bus tracking system called "iTracker."
Introduced under the slogan "Smart Transportation,
Smart Campus," the initiative enables students, faculty members, officers,
and staff to use a mobile app to view the real-time locations of buses
operating on campus. As a result, it is expected to significantly reduce long
waiting times for buses, uncertainty about their whereabouts, and the
inconvenience associated with daily commuting.
On Sunday, the live tracking system was officially
inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan at a ceremony
held at the university's Central Field.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor thanked
JUCSU, the university's Transport Office, and IFAD Group, which collaborated in
implementing the tracking system. He said, "Life is the greatest gift from
the Creator, and after life, humanity's greatest achievement is technology. The
proper use of technology makes our lives easier, safer, and more
efficient."
He added that with the introduction of the bus tracking
system, students, faculty members, officers, and staff will be able to
instantly access the real-time location of university buses. This will save
time, enable more organized and efficient commuting, and further improve the
quality of the university's transportation services.
