BIMSTEC, IUB discuss cooperation in maritime sector

Secretary General of the BIMSTEC, Indra Mani Pandey, visited the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies (CBoBS) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital and held discussions with university officials and experts on enhancing cooperation in the maritime sector.

During the visit, he met Ambassador Tarikh A Karim, Advisor, Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies at IUB; Rear Admiral M Khurshid Alam, Director, Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies at IUB; Prof Dr Daniel W Lund, Pro Vice Chancellor at IUB and Prof Bokhtiar Ahmed, Professor and Dean, SLASS, IUB, according to a BIMSTEC statement. 

The discussions highlighted opportunities for collaboration between BIMSTEC and IUB in the maritime domain, particularly in promoting and protecting the interests of BIMSTEC member states in the Bay of Bengal.

The two sides also explored potential cooperation in the areas of the blue economy and maritime security.
