A delegation from the Danish Institute for Human Rights met Dhaka University (DU) pro-vice-chancellor (Education) Prof Abdus Salam on Monday to discuss expanding cooperation in human rights education and sustainable development.

The Danish delegation included Kate Griffiths, Advisor to the Danish Institute for Human Rights, and Selma Yahic, the institute's Project Controller. Mohammad Ainul Islam, Director of the Applied Democracy Lab and Prof of the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University, also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, both sides reviewed the progress of an ongoing joint project designed to boost human rights awareness, cultivate youth leadership, and encourage students to participate effectively in social change.

The collaborative initiative organises various training sessions, workshops, and participatory activities to educate students on human rights and social responsibility, aiming to turn young people into active partners in social development.

Prof Abdus Salam highlighted the vital role of international cooperation in establishing human rights and social justice. He also reiterated Dhaka University's dedication to nurturing human values and leadership skills among its students.

"Dhaka University remains committed to developing human values and leadership qualities among students," said Prof Abdus Salam, as he welcomed the collaborative initiatives.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism about forging closer ties in human rights education, research, youth leadership development, and future social development projects.
