Textbook on crop plant embryology unveiled at GAU

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) unveiled “A Text Book of Embryology and Reproductive Structure of Crop Plants”, authored by famous Crop Botanist Prof Dr Md Abdul Baset Mia at the university’s Central Library on Tuesday.

The book was published by ‘Shams Chemistry Publications’. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest, along with Pro-VC Prof Dr M Moynul Haque and Treasurer Prof Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad, according to a press release.

The event was chaired by Prof Dr Md Yunus Mia, head of the Central Library and brought together distinguished academics, researchers and students. Following the unveiling, Prof Baset Mia presented an overview of the book, reflecting on its research-driven foundation and the inspiration behind its development, highlighting its potential to contribute meaningfully to modern agricultural education.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of such original academic works in elevating agricultural education to international standards, noting that the book would serve as a valuable resource for students and researchers alike. In a notable gesture, the author donated 10 copies of the book to the university library.

Prof Baset Mia has previously authored “Morphology and Taxonomy of Crop Plants” and “Nutrition of Crop Plants,” making significant contributions to agricultural scholarship.
