Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is set to continue his Big Bash League (BBL) journey with Hobart Hurricanes after an impressive debut campaign. The Australian franchise has retained the spinner for the tournament’s 16th edition, where he will share the dressing room with international stars Nathan Ellis, Shai Hope and Adam Zampa.

Hobart confirmed Rishad’s inclusion in their squad for the upcoming season after he emerged as one of their key performers in the previous edition.

The Hurricanes initially selected Rishad in the BBL-14 draft, but his commitments to the Bangladesh Premier League prevented him from joining the team that season.

He eventually made his BBL debut in the 15th edition and quickly established himself as a valuable member of the side. The Bangladesh international claimed 15 wickets in 12 appearances, averaging 20.86 with an economy rate of 7.82. His best bowling figures were 3-26.

Rishad finished the campaign as Hobart’s highest wicket-taker and was subsequently named the franchise’s Player of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions.

He will also have another experienced leg-spinner alongside him in the form of Australian star Zampa.

Hobart’s general manager of high performance, Salliann Beams, believes having both spinners will give the Hurricanes more flexibility when selecting their bowling combination.

“We now have two high-quality leg-spinners. They have different strengths, which will give us some excellent options depending on the conditions and the opposition,” she concluded.
