Anvir Cricket Stadium at Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) Sports City hosted its first National Cricket League (NCL) Second XI match on Monday, with Chattogram Second XI declaring on 371-6 against Rajshahi Second XI.
After winning the toss, Chattogram made the most of their batting opportunity, with Omar Hasan and Saiful Islam anchoring the innings with half-centuries of 87 and 74, respectively. Captain Saddam Hossain and Kafil also provided a solid start.
For Rajshahi, Srabon and Md Mahfuzul Islam claimed two wickets each. Rajshahi finished the day on 25-0 after seven overs in reply.
Rajshahi coach praised the facilities at ABG Sports City, saying quality grounds and practice facilities could encourage more players to take up cricket and improve standards.
“The outfield is very good, and the overall facilities are excellent. Having several wickets, an indoor stadium and proper practice facilities allows players to train more. These facilities are not available everywhere,” he said.
He also welcomed the growing volume of cricket at the venue, including corporate competitions and domestic matches, describing the development of the Bashundhara Cricket Academy as a positive sign for the country’s cricketing future.
The NCL Second XI tournament gives players opportunities to gain multi-day cricket experience. Anvir Cricket Stadium is also scheduled to host a three-day warm-up match between a local XI and the West Indies from 22 to 24 October before the Caribbean side faces Bangladesh at the SBNCS, Mirpur.
