Mohammedan Sporting Club and Bangladesh Police FC delivered a stunning goal fest on the second day of the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) third round on Saturday, scoring a combined 14 goals across two totally one-sided matches.
In Munshiganj, Mohammedan crushed Arambagh Krira Sangha 6-0 at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, while Police FC ruthlessly thrashed Fakirerpool Young Men's Club 8-0 at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.
Malian forward Souleymane Diabate was the hero for Mohammedan, leading the black-and-whites with a brilliant hat-trick. After a tight start, Mohammedan broke the game open late in the first half. Diabate struck twice in quick succession in the 36th and 39th minutes to put his team firmly in the driving seat.
Diabate then completed his hat-trick just after the break in the 48th minute. Only three minutes later, Shahariar Emon found the net to make it 4-0. Mohammedan kept up their sharp attacking play and constant pressure, with Minhajur Abedin Rakib adding a fifth in the 68th minute. Sourav Dewan capped off the 6-0 victory with a final goal in the 82nd minute.
Meanwhile, in Gazipur, Police FC were even more destructive against Fakirerpool. Senegalese forward Rassoul Ba matched Diabate's feat by scoring a second-half hat-trick of his own.
The Police goal rush started in the 16th minute. From a corner by Rahul, Zahid Hasan headed the ball into the danger zone, and Manik Hossain Molla was there to easily tap it into the net with his right foot. MS Bablu doubled the lead six minutes later and grabbed his second goal in the 42nd minute, sending Police into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The punishment continued straight after half-time, as Rabby Hossen Rahul made it 4-0 in the 48th minute. Rassoul Ba then took over the match, finding the target in the 53rd, 78th, and 80th minutes to complete a superb hat-trick and wipe out any chance of a Fakirerpool comeback. Arman Foysal Akash scored the final goal in the 89th minute to seal the massive 8-0 win.
