Mohammedan Sporting Club’s upcoming Bangladesh Football League (BFL) clash against Arambagh KS has been pushed back by a day and moved to Munshiganj following a sudden venue dispute in Cumilla.
The match, originally scheduled for Friday, will now take place on Saturday at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. The switch comes after the Cumilla District Sports Association asked the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) not to host any league games at the Bhasha Shainik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium this season.
With no other league fixtures set for Munshiganj on Saturday, the BFF quickly relocated the game, ensuring the delay for Mohammedan was kept to a bare minimum. However, the Cumilla stadium's sudden unavailability creates a major headache for the rest of the season.
Both Mohammedan and their rivals Abahani used the Cumilla ground as their home base last season. If the venue remains off-limits for the rest of the campaign, both giants of domestic football will be left without a confirmed home ground, and the BFF currently has no clear answer on where they will play.
Club officials are choosing to focus on the weekend's fixture before tackling the bigger issue. Mohammedan's director of sports, Mostakur Rahman, confirmed they are holding off on any long-term plans for now.
"For now, we will play the next match in Munshiganj," he said. "We have not taken any decision regarding the home venue yet."
