Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon has voiced his surprise on Sunday at Mustafizur Rahman's disappointing showing at the 20th Asian Games, where Bangladesh cricket team ended their campaign without a medal.
The left-arm pacer struggled in both of his appearances and conceded 25 runs in a single over during the bronze-medal match. Sujon said he had not expected Mustafizur to endure such a difficult outing on Japanese wickets.
The former skipper also blamed the batting unit for the team's disappointing campaign. He noted that Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy, Saif Hassan and Tamim failed to make meaningful contributions, making the chase of 165 a tough task. Sujon added that Bangladesh had a stronger squad than Sri Lanka and should have delivered a better performance.
Sujon was also surprised that all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain was not used with the ball. He felt Mosaddek could have been useful in the conditions and may have helped Bangladesh build pressure at key moments.
