Bashundhara Strikers began their Frost Blast T20 campaign in impressive fashion, beating Weekend Sports Family by 35 runs at the Bashundhara Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Batting first after being invited by Weekend Sports Family in the second match of the opening day of the third edition, the Strikers posted a commanding 198-9 in their 20 overs.
The Strikers lost their first wicket for 25 runs at the end of the third over but maintained a brisk scoring rate. Mahhen produced a fine knock, smashing the fastest half-century of the new season from just 27 balls before departing for 50.
Captain Shezaad Akbar Sobhan joined the action after the fall of two wickets. He took time to settle, scoring only four runs from his first 11 deliveries before launching an attacking assault. He eventually made 29 off 26 balls, scoring 25 runs from his final 15 deliveries.
Sumon Ahmed then anchored the innings with an impressive 54 off 27 deliveries, while Naantu provided a late flourish with a quick 41 to take the Strikers close to the 200-run mark. Sajal was the pick of the Weekend Sports Family bowlers with four wickets, while Faisal claimed three.
Chasing 199, Weekend Sports Family reached 32 before losing their first wicket and were 81-3 after 10 overs. However, the mounting required run rate put them under increasing pressure.
They needed 41 runs from the final over but managed just four off spinner Lazim's six deliveries, finishing on 163-7 to hand the Strikers a 35-run victory.
Lazim was the leading wicket-taker for Bashundhara Strikers with three wickets, while Tapas claimed two. Shehzad, Rony and Khaled took one wicket apiece.
