David Hemp has been appointed head coach of Bangladesh’s women’s national cricket team, taking over from Sarwar Imran on a two-year contract that runs until September 2028.
The 55-year-old will begin his tenure with the Tigresses’ upcoming tour of Australia, joining the squad in Brisbane ahead of their three-match One Day International series against the hosts, starting on 9 October.
Hemp replaces Imran, who has been in charge of the women’s team since February 2025.
The appointment marks a return to the Bangladesh women’s setup for the former Bermuda batter, who has already worked with the side twice this year. He served as batting coach during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal and was also involved with the team at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan.
Hemp has been part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s coaching structure since May 2023, initially taking charge of the High Performance programme. He was later appointed batting coach of the national men’s team in 2024, having previously worked with the side during their 2023 tour of New Zealand.
He also has extensive experience in women’s cricket, having coached Pakistan from 2020 to 2022. He previously served as head coach of Victoria Women and the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Hemp’s first assignment will be a challenging one, with Bangladesh set to play their first-ever bilateral ODI series in Australia.
