Bangladesh One Day International skipper Nigar Sultana Joty’s decision to step down as Bangladesh women’s T20 International captain will be discussed on Monday, when the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Women’s Wing sits down with the players before taking the matter to board president Tamim Iqbal for a final decision.

Women’s Wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu will meet the players on Monday and speak to Joty before discussing the matter with the BCB president.

“We will sit with the girls on Monday. Joty will be spoken to there. After that meeting, we will discuss the matter with the BCB president and take a decision on Joty,” Rafiqul told Daily Sun on Friday.

The wicket-keeper batter previously informed the BCB of her decision by email before the 20th Asian Games, but her resignation has not yet been accepted.

However, the development comes as Bangladesh face a gruelling final three months of 2026, with six ODIs and 11 T20Is scheduled across tours of Australia and New Zealand and the Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand.

The green and red women side will play their first-ever bilateral ODI series in Australia from 3-15 October, with the three matches at Allan Border Field in Brisbane forming part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

They will then travel to New Zealand for three ODIs and three T20Is from 5-25 November, with matches scheduled in Nelson, Wellington and Mount Maunganui.

The year will conclude with the 10-team Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand. Bangladesh have been required to send their national team after failing to finish among the top six in the T20I rankings, according to ICC regulations.

The BCB have therefore opted to send a full-strength squad. Bangladesh could play as many as eight matches if they reach the final.

The packed schedule comes after Bangladesh failed to achieve their expected results at the Asia Cup and Asian Games, prompting the Women’s Wing to revamp the coaching staff.

Babu has said a new coaching set-up will be in place before the Australia tour, with former Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp confirmed as the women’s team head coach from 1 October.

His appointment paves the way for the end of Sarwar Imran’s stint as head coach.

Bangladesh women have already played three ODIs and 25 T20Is in the first nine months of 2026. During this period, Tigresses have played more T20Is than both India and Pakistan, the two other Asian giants, among the ICC Full Members.

With six more ODIs and 11 T20Is to come, they will finish the year with nine ODIs and 36 T20Is.

Last year, Tigresses played 11 ODIs and 30 T20Is.
