The Bangladesh cricket team rarely gets the opportunity to play a bilateral series against ICC Associate Member Nepal. Apart from ICC and ACC multi-team events, Bangladesh have had no opportunity to face Nepal in a bilateral series.
However, following the devastating landslides and floods that caused widespread damage in the Himalayan nation recently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has agreed to play a three-match T20 International series in Nepal after responding positively to a request from the Nepal Cricket Association on humanitarian grounds.
The BCB selected the period on Wednesday as Bangladesh’s international cricket calendar has a vacant slot towards the end of March next year. The three-match T20I series will be played in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, on 26, 28 and 30 March next year.
The series was discussed during a meeting between State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari. Bhandari later visited the BCB and met its president Tamim Iqbal, where they discussed the proposed tour and wider cricketing cooperation.
The BCB said the series would provide an opportunity for the two nations to come together through cricket and convey a message of friendship and solidarity.
The board also assured Nepal of continued support for the development of cricket, including men’s and women’s tours, High Performance programmes, training, technical assistance and other development initiatives
