Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his impressive start to the Caribbean Premier League, taking seven wickets in his first two matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors and helping them strengthen their position at the top of the table.
After claiming three wickets on his CPL debut, the right-arm bowler returned with 4-23 against Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday to help Guyana secure a six-wicket victory in Providence. His second successive impressive spell also earned him the Player of the Match award.
Bowling on a turning pitch, Miraz focused on maintaining the right areas and attacking the stumps.
“I just tried to bowl in the right areas and look for wickets. I knew the pitch was turning a bit and offering help for the spinners, so I focused on targeting the stumps, and the opportunity came,” he said.
The Bangladesh all-rounder joined the Amazon Warriors as a replacement for Mohammad Nabi and said he has quickly settled into the franchise.
“It’s been a great experience. It’s my first time with the Amazon Warriors, but they’ve looked after me really well. A special thanks to the management for taking such good care of me; that means a lot,” he said.
Guyana have been the standout side in the tournament, winning eight of their nine matches to move to the top of the CPL standings. They have one league fixture remaining against Barbados Tridents before entering the playoffs.
The 28-year-old believes the Amazon Warriors have a strong chance of reaching the final if they can maintain their form.
“It’s going to be challenging, but we’re still looking to win. As for the playoffs, if we execute, we can definitely go all the way to the final. Hopefully, we get another win in the next match,” he concluded.
