Bangladesh-origin US midfielder Cavan Sullivan made Major League Soccer (MLS) history on Sunday, scoring in Philadelphia Union’s 2-0 victory over CF Montreal at Subaru Park.

The 16-year-old became the youngest player and the first teenager to register a goal contribution in five consecutive MLS matches. His fourth goal of the season took his total to 11 contributions, surpassing Freddy Adu’s record for a 16-year-old set in 2005.

Danley Jean Jacques put Philadelphia ahead before Sullivan doubled the advantage in the 75th minute, reacting quickly after Milan Iloski’s effort was saved.

Sullivan then celebrated with LeBron James’ famous ‘Chalk Toss’ gesture, paying tribute to the NBA superstar following his move to the Philadelphia 76ers.

“I was waiting to do that for a while,” Sullivan said, while inviting James to “strike the drum” and follow him (Sullivan) on Instagram.

The victory extended Philadelphia’s unbeaten streak to eight games and lifted them into an MLS Cup Playoff position.
