Amirul Islam Babu appointed national team manager

Amirul Islam Babu has returned as the manager of the Bangladesh national football team, replacing former footballer Amer Khan in the role ahead of the team’s upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 campaign in Indonesia.

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed the reshuffle in a press release on Sunday, bringing back Babu, a BFF executive committee member and former manager of both the men’s and women’s national teams.

Amer Khan had been serving as the national team manager for the past one and a half years despite not being a member of the BFF executive committee. His appointment had reportedly sparked dissatisfaction within the federation.

Khan will now serve as the national team coordinator, while BFF executive committee member Md Iqbal Hossain has been appointed team leader.

Babu’s return marks a change in the team management structure as Bangladesh prepare for their FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 assignments.

The former footballer has previously handled managerial responsibilities with both the men’s and women’s national teams and will now oversee the national side featuring star players including Hamza Choudhury and Topu Barman.
