Bashundhara Kings wasted no time after being freed from FIFA’s transfer ban, making a major move by signing Nepal national team midfielder Rohit Chand as they begin rebuilding their squad for the new season.

The Bangladesh Football League champions were officially cleared of the sanction on Friday after resolving outstanding financial issues involving foreign staff and players. The lifting of the ban ended months of uncertainty over their player registrations and AFC competition plans.

Soon after the restriction was removed, the six-time league champions secured the services of the experienced 34-year-old defensive midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back.

Rohit brings vast international experience, having represented Nepal 104 times. He is also regarded as one of South Asia’s most accomplished club footballers after a successful spell in Indonesia’s Liga 1 with Persija Jakarta and Persik Kediri.

The Nepalese midfielder enjoyed the peak of his career with Persija Jakarta, helping them win the league title in 2018 and earning the Indonesian league’s Player of the Year award.

Known for his ability to control midfield battles, break up opposition attacks and provide defensive leadership, Rohit is expected to add stability to Kings’ midfield in domestic competitions and AFC campaigns.

On the same day, Kings also signed Nepal winger Manish Dangi, with both players eligible to feature under the local player quota in South Asian competitions.

Kings have already lost several key players, including Sohel Rana and Emmanuel Sanda, to Mohammedan Sporting Club, but retained core figures such as Rakib Hossain, Bishwanath Ghosh and Topu Barman.

With the transfer ban now behind them, Kings are expected to make further foreign signings as they aim to reclaim domestic dominance and make a strong impact in continental football.
