Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal joined the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bangkok, Thailand, where the regional body approved several key governance changes, including Afghanistan’s inclusion in the ACC presidency rotation.
The AGM, held on 22 August with representatives from all ACC member countries, unanimously elected UAE Emirates Cricket Board Vice President Khalid Al Zarooni as the new ACC vice president.
The meeting also added the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to the list of Full Member boards eligible to assume the ACC presidency. Previously, the position rotated among Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The AGM also approved several committees covering governance, cricket development, competitions and finance.
ACC president Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi said: “I congratulate our newly elected Vice President and Executive Board Members, and I thank every Member Board for the spirit of unity and cooperation that continues to define this Council. Our responsibility now is to carry this vision forward with humility, discipline and an unwavering commitment to the game — for the players of today, and for the generations of Asian cricketers yet to come.”
