Bangladesh did not have any answers to Australia’s bowling before eventually falling to a nine-wicket loss in their second group stage game at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Leeds on Wednesday.
Asked to bat first, the Tigresses lost wickets at regular intervals before ultimately managing a meager 77/8 in their allotted overs with only captain Nigar Sultana Joty (27) and Ritu Moni (16) scoring in double digit.
The top-order comprising Juairiya Ferdous (eight), Dilara Akter (nought) and Sharmin Akhter (five) all departed cheaply while middle-order batters Sobhana Mostary (four) and Shorna Akter (nought) fared little better.
Only a 32-run sixth-wicket partnership between Joty and Ritu saved the women in red and green from further ignominy.
Kim Garth, captain Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry all took two wickets each.
In reply, record six-time winners Australia cantered home in 9.3 overs, led by opener Georgia Voll, who made unbeaten 45 off 32 deliveries, featuring half a dozen fours and a six.
Perry was not out on a 15-ball 19 while wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney was the only wicket to fall; Marufa Akter (1-28) initiating the breakthrough.
Joty and Co, who beat the Netherlands in their opening game, will next take on Pakistan this Saturday in Southampton before rounding off their group campaign against India and South Africa.
Following the game, Joty said that they never really recovered after losing half their side inside the first 10 overs.
"We lost many wickets in the first 10 overs and it was pretty difficult. We are better than this, we know that. In T20 format you have to get runs on the board otherwise it's difficult. We have been looking for a few players, power hitters. It's pretty difficult to find batters like that," she said.
