Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Brothers Union both secured vital victories in Saturday's Bangladesh Football League fixtures, shaking up the middle of the league table.
Playing in Manikganj, the Black and Whites overcame a stubborn Arambagh Krira Sangha side with a solid 2-0 triumph.
Following a frustrating first half where squandered opportunities by the forwards kept the match goalless, Sourav Dewan finally broke the deadlock shortly after the interval.
The lead was emphatically doubled in the 75th minute when an incisive run down the right flank culminated in a precise cutback from Arif, allowing substitute Rahim Uddin to find the back of the net with a clinical finish.
The result marks the fifth league victory for Abdul Qaiyum Sentu’s men, elevating them one spot to fifth in the standings with 20 points from 16 outings. However, despite the win, Mohammedan still trail league leaders Bashundhara Kings by a formidable 15-point margin, sitting 14 points adrift of second-placed Abahani as the 16th round concludes.
Meanwhile, over in Munshiganj, Brothers orchestrated a superb comeback to defeat Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society 3-1, inspired by a sensational brace from Shayak Dost. Rahmatganj had initially drawn first blood, but Dost’s masterful performance ensured Brothers left the pitch with all three points. The defeat proved particularly costly for Rahmatganj, as the loss relegated them from fifth down to sixth position in the league table.
