Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana will play for Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) granting him special permission ahead of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.

The decision was confirmed on Wednesday by Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi, who expressed gratitude to BCB president Tamim Iqbal for allowing the pacer’s participation in the high-profile clash.

“Thanks brother Tamim for allowing Nahid Rana to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL final,” Afridi wrote on social media.

Nahid had earlier featured in four matches for Zalmi this season before returning to Bangladesh for the One Day International series against New Zealand. He was initially not cleared to rejoin the PSL due to workload management concerns and Bangladesh’s Test commitments. The first Test against Pakistan is scheduled to begin on May 8 in Mirpur, just days after the PSL final.

However, the BCB later revised its stance, approving the fast bowler’s participation in the final after consultations with its medical and team management units.

In an official statement, the board said the decision was taken after carefully assessing the player’s workload, fitness, and development needs.

“Considering the importance of participating in the final of a major global franchise tournament, this has been viewed as an important step in the player’s continued development,” the BCB statement read. “More importantly, the team management and medical department have cleared him, ensuring that his participation will not have any adverse impact on his fitness, workload management or availability for national duty.”

A source from the BCB medical department said the decision was made after detailed discussions, adding that Nahid would have a mandatory six-day rest period following the ODI series against New Zealand, which would be fulfilled before the PSL final.

According to team planning, Nahid was scheduled to bowl six to seven overs in a training session on the day of the final. If he plays the PSL final, his workload would be limited to four overs. He is expected to return to Bangladesh the following morning, when the national team does not have any scheduled practice session, allowing him a full day of rest.

The BCB also factored in the experience of playing in a high-pressure final and the value it could add to the 23-year-old pacer’s development. The board believes exposure to such matches will help him grow as a frontline fast bowler for Bangladesh.

Nahid has impressed in the PSL this season, taking seven wickets in his last three matches after a quiet debut. His pace and bounce have earned praise in Pakistan’s cricket circles, rapidly increasing his reputation as a promising fast bowler.

Zalmi secured their place in the final after defeating Islamabad United by 70 runs in the first qualifier on Tuesday.
