Amite Hasan struck a composed unbeaten 88 after appearing as a concussion sub for East Zone during their Bangladesh Cricket League four-day match against Central Zone in Sylhet on Wednesday.
Amite, replacing Jaker Ali Anik, faced 157 deliveries and struck a dozen fours to more than make up for the disappointment of missing out on a spot in the playing XI in the first place as Yasir Ali Rabbi was instead preferred in his stead amid much consternation.
Mushfiqur Rahim was not out on 59 alongside Amite as East Zone ended day two on 243/3, replying to Central Zone’s 307.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided early impetus to East Zone’s innings with 64.
Central Zone, who resumed the day on their overnight score of 272/6, added 35 runs for the loss of their remaining four first-innings wickets.
Ebadot Hossain bagged four wickets while Tofael Ahmed picked up three for East Zone.
Meanwhile in the other game at the same city, North Zone, resuming on 16 without loss, replied well to South Zone’s first-innings tally of 314, concluding the day’s proceedings on 379/6.
North Zone’s impressive response was largely built on a 233-run fourth-wicket stand between Pritom Kumar (151) and captain Akbar Ali (121).
