HOBBART HURRICANES 'X' PROFILE
Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was crowned Hobart Hurricanes' BBL15 Player of the Year on Wednesday after a remarkable debut campaign in the Big Bash League.
The 23-year-old vanquished more established names to claim the honour, sealing his status as a strike weapon in the Hurricanes’ bowling armoury.
In his first active season in purple, Rishad finished as the franchise’s leading wicket-taker with 15 scalps. He averaged an impressive 20.86 across the tournament and maintained a tight economy rate of 7.82, underlining his value in high-pressure overs.
His standout performance came with a clinical spell of 3/26, a match-shaping burst that showcased his nerve and variations.
The award crowned a remarkable turnaround for the Bangladesh leg spinner, who had been drafted in BBL 14 but did not play a single match that season.
Given his chance this summer, he grabbed it with both hands, frequently being unleashed just after the power play to choke the scoring and force mistakes.
The right-hander edged out strong competition from teammates Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis and Chris Jordan to lift the title.
