Bangladesh cricket fans are currently in a holding pattern as Shakib Al Hasan awaits legal clearance to potentially conclude his illustrious international career.

The ace all-rounder, however, emphasised that greater effort from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) could help resolve the situation soon.

Months of speculation, raised expectations, and repeated assurances have failed to translate into Shakib’s long-awaited return, leaving the cricket community anxious and restless.

“I think the BCB has been sincere so far,” he noted. “If their efforts increase a little more, perhaps a solution can be reached sooner.”

Speaking candidly on “We are Shakibians”, the senior all-rounder admitted the situation remains trapped in legal complexity, though hope, he insists, is far from lost.

“I hope I will be able to return,” Shakib said. “At the moment, everything is stuck in legal complexities. Efforts are being made to resolve them.”

He stressed that the board’s intent has been genuine, but hinted that stronger intervention could speed up the process.

“This is a legal matter, and I don’t have prior experience dealing with such issues,” Shakib explained on Saturday. “These are new experiences for me. That’s why it’s difficult to say how much time it will take.”

Yet his resolve remains unshaken.

“If the current legal problems are resolved, I will return as soon as possible,” he said. “The day it is resolved, Insha’Allah, I will come back the very next day.”

Beyond cricket, Shakib spoke with rare emotion about Bangladesh’s future, placing faith in the next generation of leadership.

“I am always very optimistic about Bangladesh,” he stated. “Whoever takes leadership in the future will think about the country and try to move it forward.”

His deepest gratitude, however, was reserved for the supporters who have stood by him through triumph and turbulence alike.

“Simply thanking them would be an understatement,” Shakib said. “I am grateful, forever grateful for the way everyone has supported me online, offline, on the streets and on the field.”

Reflecting on his brief six-month involvement in politics, the former skipper reiterated that cricket had always remained his priority.

“I didn’t have the time to properly engage in politics,” he previously told Daily Sun. “I was playing cricket and travelling most of the time.”

He also revealed that he had been advised at the highest level to focus solely on the game.

“The former Prime Minister had told me, ‘You don’t have to do politics; just focus on playing cricket,’ and I followed that advice,” he added in his conversation with Daily Sun.

Still, the legal storm that followed left scars.

“I was very saddened when the murder case was filed against me,” Shakib said. “Later, I found out the person who filed it didn’t even know how my name ended up there.”

For now, Bangladesh’s greatest all-rounder waits, hopeful, patient, and ready.

All that remains is for the final door to open.
