The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dismissed widespread reports that Pakistan players were set to face heavy financial penalties after their disappointing campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Reports circulating in Pakistani media suggested that each member of the squad, including batter Salman Ali Agha, would be fined PKR50 lakh (around £14,000) after the team’s early exit from the tournament.
However, PCB spokesperson Amir Mir rejected the claims outright, describing them as rumours circulating on social media.
Mir said the board had never made any such decision and stressed that there were no rules or precedents allowing such financial penalties to be imposed on players.
“These reports are baseless and are merely social media rumours,” Mir told Hindustan Times on Saturday, clarifying that the PCB had not considered any mass fines against the team.
While the PCB has denied the claims of mass punishment, some individual disciplinary issues have surfaced in recent days.
