The tactical move to send Abu Haider Rony ahead of Mosaddek Hossain Saikat proved decisive and the all-rounder admitted on Thursday that Central Zone head coach Mohammad Babul consulted senior players before promoting him up the order against East Zone.
“It was a team plan. The coach spoke with Mosaddek and Ankon (captain Mahidul Islam),” Rony explained.
“Our run rate was a bit low, so they decided to send me up to accelerate the scoring.”
The gamble paid off handsomely as his 66 runs and one-wicket contribution earned him the player of the match award.
“Alhamdulillah, I was able to execute the plan. The team won, and that’s what matters most,” said the 30-year-old.
With bat and ball both firing, the left-arm pacer continued to underline his growing value in domestic cricket.
“My primary role is bowling. Alhamdulillah, I bowled well today. It was a good wicket, and the way we made a comeback was impressive.”
Despite increasing praise for his batting exploits, the all-rounder insisted his priorities remain unchanged.
“I focus on two or even three aspects to contribute as much as I can. But bowling is my main job,” the player of the match added firmly.
