The second phase of the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) may have been postponed, but clubs are not sitting idle. They are busy strengthening their squads by bringing in foreign players, and amidst this widespread recruitment drive, Bangladesh Police FC has produced the biggest surprise. announcing a surprise addition that has caught the attention of local football followers.
Police FC have secured the services of a young Senegalese forward, Mohamed Rassoul Ba, who arrives with a reputation for goals. The club has also moved swiftly to bring in a Bhutanese left-back, ensuring they strengthen both ends of the pitch ahead of the resumption of competitive football.
Confirming the deal, Police FC coach S.M. Asifuzzaman said, “Mohamed Rassoul Ba plays as a forward. He featured in the last Bhutan Premier League and was part of the champion side Paro FC. He scored 14 goals in that campaign.”
Despite the BFL and Federation Cup being suspended due to the upcoming national elections, Police FC have kept their training camp active. The camp began on 17 January, and the new signings are expected to join the squad within the next two to three days.
As part of their ongoing squad restructuring, Police FC have added two foreign players to their roster: Bhutanese left-back Sherub Dorji and Senegalese forward Mohamed Rassoul Ba.
Speaking on the signings, coach S.M. Asifuzzaman explained, “There are actually two different purposes. Sherub Dorji will be registered as a local player since he is from Bhutan, which is a separate matter. As for the foreign quota, we had one spot open. We have five registrations and four players, so we filled that slot by signing Rassoul.”
The 24-year-old Senegalese striker also carries international experience. He made his national team debut at the age of 20, in 2021 against Namibia. So far, he has played six matches for Senegal and scored one goal.
After the first phase of the BFL, Bangladesh Police sit fourth with 14 points from nine matches, recording three wins, five draws and one defeat. With the second phase of the league still uncertain, Police FC’s proactive recruitment sends a strong message: they are not waiting for the calendar to dictate their preparation. Instead, they are building a team ready to compete the moment football returns.
