On Saturday at the Mirpur Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the player of the match, Dawid Malan, acknowledged the importance of the victory for the Rangpur Riders after defeating Dhaka Capitals, especially after losing their previous three matches.
“We haven’t performed as well as we should have as a group,” Malan admitted after the match. “To come here, where Rangpur have historically played really well, and get a win is important. Hopefully, this gives us momentum now, and we can see where we end up,” he said.
The left-hand batsman also spoke about his understanding with his opening partner, Towhid Hridoy, whom he had played alongside previously.
“He’s very good. I played with him last year at Barishal, and he did exceptionally well,” Malan said.
“We complement each other nicely. He likes working the leg side and cutting, and I do similar things. Left-hand, right-hand combinations always help,” he also added.
Reflecting on the conditions, the 38-year-old described the pitch as challenging early on.
“It was tricky. This wicket was very bouncy with plenty of grass and a bit of movement,” he said.
“I struggled for the first 10 to 15 balls, then found a way to score. Hridoy played fantastically, took the pressure off me, and we built a really good partnership,” Malan concluded.
