The new year arrived with hope, but for Mohammedan Sporting Club, familiar frustration followed close behind. The traditional Dhaka giants dropped points once again, playing out a goalless draw against Brothers Union Ltd in the Bangladesh Football League at the Bir. Fl. Lt. Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Friday.
Mohammedan created a few early openings but failed to find the breakthrough. In the 10th minute, Brothers Union goalkeeper Ishaque Akando came off his line to collect the ball before Hafizur Rahman could connect with a pass from Samuel Boateng.
Brothers nearly took the lead five minutes later when Anjan Bista found the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside by the assistant referee. Mohammedan faced a similar setback in the 43rd minute as Boateng’s goal was disallowed.
In second half, Ishaque continued to deny Mohammedan. In the 72nd minute, he blocked Boateng’s low shot with his feet from close range. Seven minutes later, Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon Hossain strayed out of position, but Brothers forwards Marcos Rudwere and Arik Bista failed to capitalize.
Mohammedan pressed in the closing stages. Shafiul Hossain missed the target in the 82nd minute, and moments later Boateng failed to make clean contact from an angled pass. The goalless draw extended Mohammedan’s run to three consecutive draws
The stalemate marked Mohammedan’s third consecutive draw, leaving them sixth in the table with 10 points from nine matches, while Brothers sit just one point behind.
