The high-profile Federation Cup fixture between Bashundhara Kings and Mohammedan SC, originally scheduled for 16 December in Cumilla, has been shifted to the National Stadium due to Victory Day celebrations at the Shahid Dhirendranath Datta Stadium.

The decision was finalised on Wednesday afternoon during a meeting of the Bangladesh Football Federation’s (BFF) league committee.

Given the national holiday, the BFF is considering holding the match behind closed doors. Officials explained that securing adequate police and security personnel on Victory Day would be challenging, and a large crowd could pose management risks under such circumstances.

This will be a notable occasion for the historic venue. Renovation work at the Bangabandhu National Stadium began in August 2021 and football resumed there only on 4 June 2025 with the Bangladesh–Bhutan international match. Domestic club football, however, has not yet returned to the stadium. The league committee stated that exceptional circumstances have compelled them to move the Kings–Mohammedan match to the capital.

Another key agenda discussed at Wednesday’s meeting was the upcoming season of the Championship League, the second tier of Bangladesh’s professional football structure. Alongside the seven teams from last season, three new clubs — Khelaghar, Chattogram City Football Club and Shuktara Narayanganj — have been granted approval to participate.

Shuktara Narayanganj, once a Premier League club before their relegation and prolonged absence from domestic football, are set to make a long-awaited return.

The BFF also revisited its earlier rule that required new clubs to deposit Tk 50 lakh to enter the Championship League. This fee has now been reduced to Tk 15 lakh.

Player registration for the Championship League is scheduled to begin on 22 December. Komlapur Stadium, Gazipur, Fortis Ground and Bashundhara’s training facilities have been earmarked as potential training venues for the participating teams.
