Pacer Abu Hider Rony has turned heads in the ongoing National Cricket League (NCL) with an extraordinary display of power hitting. Despite batting in only seven innings, the Mymensingh Division pacer smashed 32 sixes, far ahead of any other batter in the competition.
Rony
usually comes in as a tail ender, often tasked with finishing the innings. Even
then, his six hitting tally stands unmatched by specialist batters. The second
highest this season is Ziaur Rahman with 13 sixes, followed by Soumya Sarkar
with 12. No other player managed to reach double digits.
Rony’s
stunning rise in the six hitting chart came mainly from his explosive century
in the seventh and final match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The
left hander blasted an unbeaten 141 off 127 balls against Rajshahi, hitting 10
fours and a remarkable 13 sixes.
Despite topping the six hitting list, Rony did not play the full
NCL season as he was away representing Bangladesh A in the Hong Kong Sixes and
the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. He eventually featured in four matches
and seven innings, scoring 421 runs at an average of 105.25 and a strike rate
of 116.94. Of those runs, 316 came in boundaries.
