After nearly two decades of portraying fictional characters on screen, popular Bangladeshi actress Popy is now planning to bring her own life story to the big screen.
Popy, who made her film debut with “Kuli” and has won the National Film Award three times, is considering producing a biopic based on her personal experiences and journey. In a recent media interview, the actress revealed that the project is currently in its early stages.
According to the actress, the proposed film will draw from various events and experiences from her life. However, several key aspects of the project--including which chapters of her life will be included in the screenplay and who will direct the film--have yet to be finalised.
It is also undecided whether Popy herself will portray the central character. One thing, however, is certain: she wants to produce the film herself.
After spending years telling other people’s stories through acting, Popy’s creative interest is now increasingly leaning towards filmmaking and production. Through a film based on her own life, she hopes to explore a new chapter in her creative journey.
“I have portrayed the lives of many people. Now I want to tell my own story. I have been through many things. My family, my stepmother and my struggles are stories that need to be told,” Popy said.
Popy is not acting regularly on the big screen and spends much of her time with her husband, child and family. She said her husband has never prevented her from acting and has always supported and cared for her.
Regarding her son Ayat’s future career, Popy said she has no specific plans yet, but wants him to grow up as a good human being. “I want to leave this beautiful world with dignity,” she said.
Popy was last seen on screen in director Sadeq Siddiqui’s film “Direct Action.” Since then, she has remained absent from new film projects.
