Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad on Saturday said the Muslim world would unite to resist any attempt to attack or threaten the security of the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
“If any attempt is made to attack or threaten the security of Makkah and Madinah, Muslims around the world will unite and mount resistance, InshaAllah,” he said in a statement.
“If necessary, millions of Muslims will be ready to sacrifice their lives to uphold the sanctity and honour of the holy lands,” the minister added.
He said Makkah and Madinah were the most revered places of worship and sanctity for Muslims worldwide, and any attack, aggression or threat to their security was “completely unacceptable”.
The minister backed statements by the two imams of Al-Haramain, saying protecting the sanctity and security of the holy cities was a collective responsibility of the Muslim Ummah.
The people of Bangladesh remained uncompromising on protecting the security, dignity and sanctity of the two holy cities, he said, urging all Muslim states and the Ummah to set aside their differences and unite under the banner of Islam to resist any threat, now or in the future.
He prayed for the security of the holy cities and for peace, unity and well-being of the global Muslim Ummah.
