Police recovered five bodies, including four from different parts of the capital and one from Faridpur, on Saturday.
In Dhaka, the dismembered body parts of a woman were recovered from Adabar, two bodies were recovered from two separate places near the National Eidgah in Shahbagh, and another body was recovered from the Lalbagh area. Police recovered four body parts of a woman from a canal at Hakkar Mor in Adabar in the afternoon.
The identity of the woman could not be ascertained immediately, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Adabar Police Station Jahidul Islam.
He said the dismembered head, two hands and torso were stuffed into a black bag, while the legs could not be found. The woman was wearing a maroon kameez and olive-coloured pyjama, he said, adding that police were working to identify the deceased and the killers.
In Shahbagh, police recovered the bodies of two unidentified men, aged around 65 and 45, from a footpath near the National Eidgah and near Kadam Foara, adjacent to the premises, respectively, between 10am and 11am. Confirming the development, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Toufiq Hasan said passers-by informed police that the two men were lying unconscious there.
When police took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, doctors on duty declared them dead, he said.
The police officer said the victims were initially believed to be homeless people and suspected to have died of illness. The exact cause of death would be confirmed after the autopsy reports were received, he added.
Additionally, a lawyer was found dead in his-rented room at a building in the Boubazar area under Lalbagh Police Station on Saturday. After being informed by a neighbour, police recovered his half-decomposed body  about 11:30am, said Officer-in-Charge Jamil Hossain.  He said the deceased lived in that room alone while his family lived in his village home.
“It is suspected that he died of a stroke around two days ago,” said Jamil while suggesting to wait for the autopsy report for the exact reason behind the death.
He said the Crime Scene team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) also visited the site. Later, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
In Faridpur, police recovered six decomposed pieces of an unidentified person’s body, packed in three plastic sacks, from beside a paddy field in Boali village under Madhukhali upazila. After spotting the plastic sacks, local passers-by called the emergency service 999 to report the matter.
On receiving the information, a team led by Masuduzzaman, assistant superintendent of police for Madhukhali Circle, arrived at the scene.
The sacks were then opened in the presence of local residents, revealing six severed body parts of an unidentified man believed to be aged between 35 and 40. Md Masuduzzaman said the body had been sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police were working to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident and establish the identity of the deceased, he said.
