The complainant in a case filed against actress Tanjin Tisha over allegations of fraud, breach of trust and threats has submitted a no-confidence, or Naraji, petition challenging a Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) report that found no evidence supporting the allegations.
Complainant Sanaya Chowdhury filed the petition on Thursday before the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sefatullah through her lawyer.
Confirming the development, complainant’s lawyer Shubhra Sinha Roy Rony said the court fixed 20 October for further hearing and directed the complainant and three witnesses to appear before it on that date.
Sanaya filed the case against Tanjin Tisha on 27 November last year. The court subsequently took cognisance of the complaint and ordered the PBI to investigate the allegations.
According to the case statement, Sanaya, the owner of a fashion house and studio in Gulshan, alleged that Tisha took a sari worth Tk75,000 on 13 December 2024 to wear at an event and was expected to return it afterwards.
The complainant alleged that despite repeated requests, the actress did not return the sari. She also claimed that Tisha later contacted her through Facebook Messenger and allegedly threatened to file a case against her and humiliate her socially. Sanaya subsequently filed a general diary with Gulshan Police Station.
The PBI submitted its investigation report to the court on 25 May stating that it found no truth in the allegations of fraud, breach of trust or threats against the actress.
Tisha is also facing another case involving allegations over a sari worth around Tk28,800. She appeared before the court and secured bail in that case on 13 August.
