It did not take long for Sunerah Binte Kamal to establish a distinct identity after stepping into acting. Having won a National Film Award with her debut film, the actress is now set to reach another major milestone in her career as her latest film, “The Difficult Bride”, has earned a place in the competition section of the prestigious Venice International Film Festival.
Directed by Rubaiyat Hossain, the film marks a historic achievement for Bangladesh, becoming the first Bangladeshi production to compete in the festival’s main competition section. Sunerah is thrilled by the achievement and will travel to Venice, Italy, with the film’s team to attend the festival.
“This is truly wonderful and joyful news,” Sunerah said. “It is a matter of happiness for everyone associated with the film and also for the country’s cinema. I’m also going to the Venice Film Festival.”
The actress expressed confidence in “The Difficult Bride”, saying that the film has turned out well and that working on the project was a memorable experience for her. She also praised director Rubaiyat Hossain and the entire team behind the production.
According to the artiste, a good film requires a combination of a strong story, a capable team, convincing performances and effective direction. “When everything comes together, a beautiful film is made--and I believe this film has those elements,” she said.
Sunerah previously attended an international film festival in South Korea with “Moshari”, but representing Bangladesh at a globally renowned festival such as Venice is undoubtedly a special moment in her career.
While she hopes to become more active in cinema, Sunerah is focused on quality rather than quantity. She continues to receive offers for new films but says she will only take on projects with stories and characters that truly appeal to her.
Alongside films, Sunerah remains busy on television. Her recent performance as Sayra in the serial “Eta Amader-i Golpo” received widespread appreciation, with many viewers now affectionately calling her “Sayra.” As she prepares to step onto the Venice stage, Sunerah is experiencing one of the most significant chapters of her career--one that could also mark a proud new moment for Bangladeshi cinema.
Began on Wednesday, the oldest film festival in the world, will continue till 12 September. “The Difficult Bride” will have its world premiere on 6 September.
