The newly formed Invest Bangladesh has started its initial operational activities following the merger of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA), with its digital platforms and organisational arrangements now being updated.

The government formally brought the Invest Bangladesh Act, 2026 into force on 20 August through a gazette notification, paving the way for the three agencies to operate under a single investment promotion authority.

A BIDA official told the Daily Sun that the execution of the merger had already begun, with administrative arrangements for officials being made under the new authority.

“The execution has started. Administrative arrangements have already been made for the officials concerned, and they are now attached to Invest Bangladesh,” the official said.

He said the transition of the agencies’ websites and other digital platforms was also underway.

“The new logo has already been prepared. The websites and other online platforms are expected to be updated by Sunday,” he said.

The update indicates that the merger has moved beyond the formal issuance of the gazette and entered the implementation stage.

Under the new law, Invest Bangladesh will operate as a statutory body with its headquarters in Dhaka. It will be headed by a chairman, who will also serve as its chief executive, along with seven members.

The authority will be responsible for identifying investment opportunities, promoting Bangladesh as an investment destination, attracting domestic and foreign investment, removing investment barriers and coordinating with ministries and government agencies.

The merger is aimed at creating a single front desk for investors, reducing duplication among agencies and making investment-related services easier to access.

Existing assets, records, agreements, liabilities and other matters of BIDA, BEZA and PPPA will be transferred to Invest Bangladesh. Officials and employees of the three agencies will also work under the new authority.

Nahian Rahman Rochi, former executive member and head of business development at BIDA, earlier said investors had long been seeking a single platform for investment-related services.

“The goal is to turn Invest Bangladesh into that single point,” he said, adding that the new arrangement was expected to provide investors with more coordinated, efficient and reliable services.

The full organisational structure of Invest Bangladesh, including its various wings and teams, is being developed in phases.

The authority will also be allowed to establish branch offices across the country and liaison offices abroad, subject to government approval.

The merger comes as the government seeks to improve Bangladesh’s investment climate and attract more domestic and foreign investment by simplifying regulatory procedures and strengthening coordination among agencies.

With the formal legal framework now in place and administrative and digital arrangements under way, Invest Bangladesh is expected to move towards full-scale operations in phases.
