Bangladesh is co-organising the Mekong-Lancang Fruits Festival 2026 for the second consecutive year, aiming to expand the footprint of its agricultural exports in China.
The festival opens today at Tongde Kunming Plaza in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, according to a Commerce Ministry press release issued Thursday.
The event brings together fruit producers, exporters, buyers, and commercial representatives from across the Mekong-Lancang region and beyond.
A delegation of Bangladeshi companies will showcase fresh and dried fruits alongside a variety of processed food and agricultural goods.
Officials expect the event to give local businesses direct access to Chinese importers, international traders, and retail buyers.
Designed to enhance agricultural trade and cross-border cooperation in fruit production, processing, and export, the festival will feature product exhibitions, live sales, business-to-business networking, and market expansion sessions.
Bangladesh’s participation has been strengthened through an agreement between the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Bangladeshi businesses can use several trade facilities in designated areas of Yunnan, including rent-free bonded warehouses, exhibition spaces, online product promotion and faster customs clearance.
Officials and exporters believe these facilities could help accelerate Bangladesh’s agricultural exports to China by reducing logistical barriers and improving access to the Chinese market.
Bangladesh first participated in the Mekong-Lancang Fruits Festival last year, showcasing its agricultural and processed food products to international buyers.
The country’s participation this year marks a further expansion of the initiative, providing local producers and exporters with opportunities to engage directly with global buyers, importers and potential business partners.
China’s huge consumer market offers significant potential for Bangladeshi agricultural products, particularly mangoes, jackfruits, lychees and other fruits and farm products.
Greater access to the Chinese market could also help attract investment in the agricultural sector, diversify Bangladesh’s export basket and strengthen the country’s position in international supply chains.
Bangladesh’s participation in the festival is seen as an opportunity to showcase its products, build long-term business ties in China and expand agricultural exports.
