The newly elected MPs for the 13th National Parliament’s reserved women's seats are scheduled to be sworn in today.
The Parliament Secretariat issued a notification on Saturday regarding the upcoming proceedings.
It said that the oath-taking of the newly elected members of parliament (MPs) for the reserved women's seats is scheduled for 9pm today.
The ceremony will be hosted at the designated Oath Room, situated on the first level of the East Block (Level 1) of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Relevant departments have already been instructed to complete the necessary preparations for conducting the swearing-in ceremony. The matter was confirmed in a notice signed by Shawkat Akbar, deputy secretary of the Legislative Wing-1 of the Parliament Secretariat.
According to tradition, the speaker will administer the oath to the newly elected MPs. On 30 April, the Election Commission (EC) officially gazetted the names of 49 MPs who were elected uncontested to the reserved women’s seats of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
According to the gazette, based on the allocation of seats among political parties and alliances, 36 MPs were elected from the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its alliance.
In addition, 12 MPs were elected from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, while one woman MP was elected from a coalition formed by six independent MPs.
EC validates Nusrat Tabassum's nomination
The Election Commission (EC) approved the nomination of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti for a reserved seat, following a court order to review her earlier rejection.
Confirming the matter officially, Md Moin Uddin Khan, returning officer and EC joint secretary, said that Nusrat was present at the commission at 11am on Saturday as scheduled with all the necessary documents for the verification of her nomination papers.
Her nomination papers were accepted as valid as the documents were verified, the signatures of the proposer, supporter and the coordinator of the alliance were complete, he said.
Earlier, on 21 April, the returning officer did not accept her nomination papers because she was only 19 minutes late after 4pm.
