The interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus has been formally dissolved through a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division, marking the official end of the Advisory Council that governed during the transitional period.

The notification, issued on Tuesday, stated the President, acting under Clause (3) of article 56 of the constitution, has appointed Tarique Rahman as prime minister, recognising him as an MP who commands the confidence of the majority in the parliament.

The President also gave consent for the formation of a new government under his leadership.

“With the formation of the new government, the Advisory Council of the current interim government shall be considered dissolved,” the notification read.

The gazette formalises the transition of executive authority following the constitution of the new cabinet under the prime minister.

A senior Cabinet Division official, on condition of anonymity, said such notifications are part of established constitutional procedure.

He said the previous government was considered dissolved once the new cabinet took oath. However, a separate gazette notification was required to formally record the dissolution.
