The interim government on Sunday issued an ordinance establishing Dhaka Central University (DCU), bringing Dhaka’s seven colleges under one administrative umbrella.

The ordinance states that Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College will be academically affiliated with Dhaka Central University while retaining their individual identities.

The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs published the 'Dhaka Central University Ordinance, 2026' as a gazette notification.

According to the ordinance, DCU will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, examination system, research, and the awarding of certificates for its affiliated colleges.

Moreover, there are plans to construct a permanent campus for the university. Until the campus is constructed, activities may be conducted using rented buildings and spaces.

The draft of the ordinance was published on 24 September last year. Later, on 22 January of this year, the advisory council of the interim government approved the draft.
