Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election, 92 polling centres across six constituencies in Brahmanbaria have been identified as ‘highly risky’, prompting heightened security measures.

Election officials said that of the 805 polling centres in the district, 574 have been classified as risky or highly risky. Among them, 92 centres are highly risky, while 231 have been categorised as general. CCTV cameras are being installed at all polling centres, and authorities said adequate security arrangements will be ensured.
In Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar), 54 of the 80 polling centres have been marked as vulnerable and 10 as highly vulnerable.

Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail–Ashuganj and two unions of Bijoynagar) has 151 centres, of which 67 are vulnerable and 15 highly vulnerable. In Brahmanbaria-3 (Brahmanbaria Sadar and Bijoynagar), 111 of 192 centres are vulnerable and 27 are highly vulnerable.

Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba and Akhaura) has 85 vulnerable and 14 highly vulnerable centres out of 130. In Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar), 99 of 154 centres are vulnerable, including 15 highly vulnerable, while Brahmanbaria-6 (Bancharampur) has 64 vulnerable and 11 highly vulnerable centres out of 98.

Superintendent of Police Shah Md Abdul Rauf said the classification was based on factors such as communication challenges and the potential misuse of muscle power, adding that special security plans have been prepared for these centres.

Returning Officer and District Commissioner Sharmin Akter Jahan said each polling centre will be staffed with two police personnel and eight to ten Ansar members.

Mobile teams and striking forces from law enforcement agencies, including the army, RAB and BGB, will remain on standby. Around 10,000 Ansar and VDP members will be deployed across the district, she added.
