Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday said the Election Commission has taken an unprecedented and risky step by introducing postal ballots for expatriate voters, a move never attempted in Bangladesh before.
Speaking at a briefing with journalists on the postal voting system, he said, “We have taken an initiative that has never been attempted in this country before; no one has taken such a risk.”
He added that the decision was taken following an announcement by the chief adviser, despite knowing from the outset that it would involve significant challenges.
“We knew we were entering uncharted territory and that many obstacles would arise. But our oath and commitment were that we would implement it no matter what,” the CEC said, thanking journalists for their cooperation throughout the process.
Acknowledging that mistakes or confusion can occur in any first-time initiative, AMM Nasir Uddin expressed optimism that such issues would be resolved once accurate information becomes available.
He also voiced concern over the growing influence of artificial intelligence, warning that AI could emerge as a major challenge in election management.
