Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and
Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair have called on the party’s
office-bearers to attain moral virtues as pre-conditions for serving the
people and establishing “deen” or the “right path.”
Speaking at a party event in Sylhet on Saturday, the two
leaders emphasised acquiring and practicing qualities like patience, sacrifice,
steadfast faith, moral integrity, self-purification and the pursuit of
knowledge.
The event featured a daylong training session for Sylhet district
and metropolitan working committee members, and was held at an auditorium in
the Madina Market area of Sylhet city.
Porwar, also a former lawmaker, said that Jamaat-e-Islami’s
office-bearers must play a more active role in establishing people’s rights and
fulfilling public expectations. He stressed the need to prioritize people’s
rights, problems, and needs. Alongside ensuring transparency and accountability
in carrying out responsibilities, public engagement must be strengthened at
every level of the organization.
He said public trust must be earned by standing beside
people in their joys and sorrows, identifying local problems and taking
initiatives to resolve them, and engaging in public welfare activities. Rather
than creating distance from the public, leaders must listen to people and
reflect their expectations through responsible conduct.
He further said there was no substitute for sacrifice,
patience, and steadfastness in the movement to establish the Deen or the “straight
parth”. The top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami had set an exceptional example of
sacrifice by remaining steadfast in their faith and embracing martyrdom with
smiles on their faces. Learning from their sacrifices, ideals, and struggles,
office-bearers must remain prepared to make the highest sacrifices for the
establishment of the Deen.
He called on leaders to work for the welfare of the people,
setting aside personal interests, comfort, and adversity. Upholding steadfast
faith, moral integrity, and organizational discipline, everyone must work
together with the goal of attaining the pleasure of Allah.
The training session was chaired by Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob
Zubair, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami and director of its
Sylhet region. It was moderated by Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, a member of the
party’s Central Working Committee and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sylhet
Metropolitan unit. Naib Ameers, secretaries, and working committee members from
Sylhet Metropolitan, Sylhet district, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj districts
participated in the program.
Mia Golam Porwar said that effective support for the
organization’s candidates in local elections requires well-planned strategies
to be developed in advance. Electoral activities must be designed with a clear
understanding of local residents’ needs, problems, and expectations.
He emphasized the importance of presenting candidates’
qualifications, capabilities, integrity, and public engagement to voters, while
strengthening coordination, organizational discipline, and a sense of
responsibility among party workers. He also stressed maintaining regular
contact with the public, engaging in door-to-door discussions, and presenting
practical plans to address local problems. He urged office-bearers to work in
unity to earn public trust and expand public support.
The training session also featured speeches by Maulana
Habibur Rahman, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Majlish-e-Shura and Ameer
of its Sylhet district unit, and Hafiz Abdul Hai Harun, a member of the Sylhet
regional team.
Among those present were Habiganj district Ameer Kazi
Maulana Mukhlisur Rahman; Moulvibazar district Ameer Engineer Shahed Ali;
Sylhet Metropolitan Naib Ameers Hafiz Miftahuddin and Dr. Nurul Islam Babul;
district Naib Ameer Professor Abdul Hannan; Sylhet Metropolitan Secretary
Mohammad Shahjahan Ali; and district Secretary Md Zainal Abedin, among others.
In his concluding remarks as chair, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob
Zubair said regular training, self-purification, and the pursuit of knowledge
were indispensable for improving the moral and organizational standards of
Jamaat’s office-bearers.
He said everyone must remain conscious of their individual
responsibilities and work with a sense of accountability to achieve the
organization’s goals and objectives. By strengthening public engagement,
prioritizing people’s rights and expectations, and making organizational
activities more dynamic at the local level, office-bearers must develop their
capabilities and leadership qualities.
He called on all leaders and members to demonstrate greater sincerity and commitment in fulfilling their responsibilities and standing beside the people amid the country’s changing circumstances.
