The
Opposition parties speak sweet words inside the Parliament, but outside they take
the negative role they assumed during the 1971 Liberation War, alleged Water
Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee.
Anee, the
joint secretary general at the BNP, made the remark at a rally held at the
Adarsha Samad Math in Laksmipur, marking the 48th founding anniversary of the ruling
party.
Anee said,
without naming, that a leader from the Opposition alliance has been repeatedly making
abusive statements that breach political norms.
And yet,
senior leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami, the leading Opposition party, has not said
anything against this “ill-mannered activist,” Anee said.
“In
reality, they are all the same, they all belong to Jamaat, Shibir – Jamaat’s
student wing, and NCP – Jamaat’s biggest political ally,” Anee said.
He also warned
the Opposition against issuing threats aimed at the ruling BNP, which he
claimed has risen through struggles on the streets.
Threats and
abusive remarks would not work against BNP, Anee said.
Anee criticised
the Opposition alliance for embarking on a “long march” to protest against measures
adopted by the government, even though it has only been six months since the BNP
cabinet assumed office.
People “did
not support” Sunday’s Long March organised by the Opposition alliance, nor did
they like the “provocative and threatening remarks” made by the Opposition
activists, Anee claimed.
The
Opposition should have given more time to the government to fix the state of
affairs, he said. But instead it has resorted to issuing threats and unconscionable
statements like the ousted fascist forces, Anee alleged.
Since the
elections, not a single day has gone by that the Opposition has not staged anti-government
protests and issued threats, Anee said.
The Opposition
must accept the realities on the ground, and the difficulties the BNP
government, and the entire country is in right now, he said. The government
must be given time, he added.
BNP is
committed to fulfilling its pledge to its people and continues work to
implement the election manifesto, the water resources minister said.
He also cautioned
people to stay keep a distance with Jamaat-e-Islami activists, who he alleged
were “covert and secretive individuals harmful for the society and the country.”
There is not a single Islamic scholar or good people in Jamaat-e-Islami even
though it brands itself as an Islamic party, Anee claimed.
