Opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman visited the central office of National Citizen Party (NCP) in the capital’s Banglamotor on Tuesday.
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam
welcomed the opposition leader during this time. NCP Chief Coordinator
Nasiruddin Patwary and Member of Parliament Dr Mahmuda Mitu along with other
leaders of the party were present during Jamaat ameer’s visit.
Member of Jamaat’s Central Working Committee and
Publicity Committee Mohammad Jahidur Rahman accompanied Shafiqur during the
visit, said a press release.
Speaking to the media following the visit, Shafiqur
said Jamaat and NCP are working together for the country and its people.
“We have been fighting both inside and outside the
parliament since the last election,” Shafiqur said.
Shafiqur added, “We are trying to act as a
constructive opposition. The party forming the government and the party in the
opposition are two wings of the government, without which the country cannot run.
Democracy is hollow without opposition party. We are being deprived to a great
extent from getting what is owed to us as the opposition in the parliament.”
Shafiqur concluded his visit by expressing optimism
that NCP will contribute in building a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
