Former Chapainawabganj-3 MP and District Council Administrator Harunur Rashid has called for the death penalty for Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam if he is proven to have been involved in adultery.
“You have seen on social media the video of
the alleged misconduct of an MP from Satkhira that went viral yesterday. Does
this bring any honour to us? Those who are using Islam to do politics today -- I
have said that they are a hypocritical political party. There is no consistency
between what they say and what they do,” he said.
Harunur Rashid made the remarks while
speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a hospital automation system
to digitalise services at the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital around
noon on Wednesday.
“I believe adultery is spreading in society
because of such criminals who commit these offences while presenting themselves
as members of religious political parties. I would urge the government to take
action. There is a law (in Islam) prescribing the death penalty for adultery.
So, if it is proven that the MP was involved in adultery, the death penalty
should be carried out against him,” he said.
He added, “If the prime minister investigates
the matter today, you will see the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders creating a huge
uproar, saying, ‘We will bring down this government.’ But bringing down the
government is not so easy.”
Hospital Superintendent Dr Zamir Md Hasibus
Sattar, RMO Mahbub Hasan, former Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila vice-chairman
Nazrul Islam, former municipal councillor Abdul Barek and Masidul Haque Nikhil,
among others, were present at the programme.
